Behind the Scenes: June and July

Posted on 18th July 2019

We may have seemed a little quiet of late but that’s because we have been working on a brilliant programme for Autumn and also developing exciting new theatre productions.

At the end of June we spent an inspiring week in R&D with some very talented females from the world of circus, aerial and physical theatre. The week was part of the development of a feminist, narrative-circus retelling of a very famous piece of literature. We can’t say much at this moment, but watch this space…

In other news, we will have our new season brochure ready this Friday, why not pop in and pick up a copy and have a coffee in our cafΓ©, or, if you can’t wait until then, take a sneaky peak here.

Over the last month we have enjoyed two glorious weekends of Summer Shakespeare at the Down Grange Walled Garden, firstly from our Youth Theatre, and then from our adult theatre workshop group, The Proteans. The efforts from everyone involved was just immense, and the pay-off? Wonderful performances and fun was had by all. Check out this lovely review in the Basingstoke Gazette, and to see pictures from the Youth Theatre, visit our Facebook page.

Only last week we hosted a scratch performance of Rough Cut by our current associate artists Little Soldier. The performance was both touching and hilarious, full of their madcap humour and unique style of physical theatre. Suffice to say, we can’t wait to see how the project develops. To find out more about Little Soldier and keep up to date with their latest projects, visit their website.

We are now working hard on our Autumn Tour of Macbeth, if you missed the initial performances in Basingstoke back in March, we will be taking the production just down the road to Farnham Maltings in October, so book your tickets now!

That’s all for now folks, but don’t hate us if we mention the ‘C’ word in the next newsletter, yup, Christmas planning is well underway!
